Who I'd Rather Be (Production)

Who I'd Rather Be was my Final University Project, the Practical Equivalent to a Dissertation. As the only producer for this project, I had more hands-on experience with the ins and outs of producing. Additionally being that this was the final year project, we tried our best to have the most professional and practical documents and practices.

Conceptually the short filmed aimed to showcase our knowledge gained throughout the years while having fun with itself. The story would see 3 friends "jumping" from film genre to film genre and having to assimilate to the tropes while progressing in character development and having an overall arc extended over the whole short. This would not only showcase our knowledge of theoretical genre studies and film history but it would allow every role in the production crew to execute different and original work within the same self-contained film.

Unfortunately, the project had to be canceled before any shooting was possible once again. It was quite frankly one of my worst regrets but there was nothing we could do as a group. We ended up finishing our Pre-production Folder which I believe is very well organized and structured.

This experience did help me learn a lot about producing, from Budgeting to Production Meeting notes, to full-on extensive research especially in the covid-19 time where health and safety had to be adapted. The delegating of tasks, research, and documenting was a hard and extensive job however I believe it was a necessary and great experience and in the end, I think our work came out very well, despite the unfortunate inability to shoot.
